ACCREDITATION

In early 2008, the Hudson Highlands Land Trust was invited by the Land Trust Alliance (LTA) to be a first-round candidate for accreditation. LTA developed its accreditation program in response to congressional demands for uniform technical and ethical standards in the land trust community.

The process of accreditation requires extensive and detailed documentation; it is extremely time consuming, and it is ongoing: accreditation must be renewed every five years. Accreditation signifies that a land trust deserves the public’s trust; further, it certifies that it is operating in a way that makes it likely to endure—and to preserve the property that has been entrusted to it.

The Hudson Highlands Land Trust was proud to be among the first 39 land trusts, from over 1700 eligible across the country, to receive accreditation at the annual LTA Rally Conference held in Pittsburgh, PA in September 2008. Further information on Land Trust Accreditation.
